To bring more women into the tech industry, it has been outlined that the tech sector needs to make more girls in early education aware of the success you can have in the IT sector, provide more women in tech jobs and highlight how fast technology is growing. Early investment will help more women in tech jobs to be filled in the future. Right now, tech companies can attract more women into tech by offering them flexible hours which allow for remote working and a work life balance. This is one way of solving the lack of females in tech and in senior level positions.

Web Analytics Developer

  • The first of the women in tech jobs is a Web Analytics Developer analyses user’s behaviour once the SEO has bought people to the site. They find out what users do when they get there and ensure they get exactly what they want from visiting the site, so they keep on coming back. The daily tasks of a Web Analytics Developer will be to collect data on how much traffic is coming to the site, what users are doing on the site and if they are engaged. You will need some experience and knowledge of analytics skills such as Omniture, Google Analytics, Coremetrics and Webtrends. The average UK salary for a web analytics developer is £60,000.

Digital Marketing Manager

  • A Digital Marketing Manager is responsible for driving consumers to a company, improving brand recognition and driving sales to a company. They will be advertising on different media platforms such as social media channels, blogs and emails. The daily tasks of a Digital Marketing Manager are to analyse what does and doesn’t work when attracting customers and to improve campaigns based on that analysis. Some of the skills that you will need as a Digital Marketing Manager are email marketing, SEO and web analytics and A/B testing. The average UK salary for a digital marketing manager is £42,500.

Front End Developer

  • Front end developers are responsible for implement elements that users can interact with in a web application. They are usually supported by Back End Developers who are responsible for application logic and integration of Front-End Developers work. Front End Developers build interactive sites, manage user data and debug browsers. The skills you may need to have to become a Front-End Developer are JavaScript, jQuery, SASS, HTML, CSS and a variety of frameworks. The average UK salary for a front-end developer is £42,500.

Mobile Developer

  • The role of a Mobile Developer is similar to a Software Developer; however, it is more specialised in building apps for either Googles Android, Apples iOS and Microsoft Windows platform. Mobile Developers learn programming languages and software development for their chosen platform. Daily tasks will include optimising code for mobiles, taking designs from prototypes to code and testing and analysing codes. The skills you will need to become a Mobile Developer are Git + GitHub, iOS, Android, Ruby, Java and several others depending on what platform you are working on. The average salary for a Mobile Developer in the UK is £45,000.

Software Developer

  • Software Developer’s identity, design, install and test software systems that they have built for a company or a client. The daily tasks of a Software Developer are writing code, designing systems, prototypes and analysing software. You will also be working closely with designers, product managers and programmers. To become a Software Developer, you will need knowledge and experience within a variety of programming languages, some of which include HTML, CSS, SASS, MySQL, Ruby, Python, jQuery and PHP. The average UK salary for a Software Developer is £42,500.

Systems Administrator

  • A Systems Administrator is someone who is responsible for the upkeep of machines and applications. They must ensure that they run effectively and efficiently to help a business run smoothly. Your daily tasks will include researching, installing, maintaining, updating and upgrading software as well as resolving technical problems. The ideal skills you will need for this job is hands on experience with systems and equipment, organisational skills and attention to detail. You can earn an average salary of £42,500.

UX Designer

  • A User Experience (UX) Designer is someone who is always trying to enhance user satisfaction by improving certain elements about a product or service. They can improve usability and accessibility by spending time on coding, mocking up designs and working with developers. As a User Experience Designer, you will carry out tasks such as developing prototypes, designing specs and researching and analysing user experience. Some of the skills you would need to become a UX Designer are experience with programming languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Git and GitHub. The average UK salary for a UX Designer is £55,000.

UI Designer

  • User Interface (UI) Designers are responsible for transferring brands strengths to a products interface to help enhance user experience. A UI Designer visually guides a user through a products interface via interactive elements across all platforms. The daily tasks of a UI Designer will be to design site interfaces and graphics, perform design research and create animated designs. Some of the skills you will need to become a UI Designer are experience with Photoshop, HTML, CSS, JavaScript and wireframing. The average UK salary for a UI Designer is £52,500.
